A Rich History

Eloise Psychiatric Hospital, originally established in 1839, was once a beacon of progressive mental health care, pioneering treatments and serving as a community cornerstone. Named after Eloise Dickerson Davock, the daughter of Detroit’s postmaster, the hospital was a place of refuge and healing. Over the decades, Eloise evolved from a poor house and farm into a renowned asylum, sanatorium, and hospital, becoming the largest psychiatric facility in the United States. At its peak, Eloise housed over 10,000 patients and employed 2,000 staff across 78 buildings on a sprawling 902-acre campus.

Today, only a handful of these historic buildings remain, standing as silent witnesses to a bygone era. These include the firehouse, power plant, commissary, and the hauntingly beautiful Eloise Cemetery.

Where Do I Park?

You can conveniently park your vehicle at the designated area on the East Side of the Asylum.

Is There a Fee for Parking?

Yes, there is a parking fee of $20, which you can pay upon entering the parking area.

Where are the Bathrooms?

For VIP ticket holders, private luxury restrooms are available. General Admission guests can find restrooms located on each side of the lot for their convenience.

Are there any prohibited items?

To ensure a safe event for everyone, we do not allow guns, knives, outside alcohol, outside food, or large bags of any kind. Any items that do not pass through security must be returned to your vehicle.

Can I bring a camera or recording equipment?

Cameras and other recording equipment are not permitted; however, you are welcome to use your mobile phone to capture memories of the event.

What are the food and beverage options?

A variety of food trucks offering a range of culinary options will be available at the event to cater to all tastes.

Can I tailgate before the event?

Yes, you are allowed to tailgate/picnic before most events. However, alcohol is not allowed in the parking lot due to local ordinances.

Can I bring food and drinks into the venue?

Outside food and beverage of any kind is prohibitted (except for religious, dietary or for medical necessity)

What time do the doors open for events?

The doors for most events open 90 minutes before the scheduled start time. However, this is subject to change.

What is the smoking policy?

Sorry, smoking of any kind is prohibited on the event grounds of Iconic Eloise Events.
